Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Newport News, is seeking a Virginia-licensed, full-time, middle school (grades 6-8) science teacher to begin this October. Candidates must have a current Virginia teaching license with endorsements in middle school science as well as Earth and Space Science. Candidates must be practicing Catholics who are enthusiastic for educating students academically and spiritually. The Diocese of Richmond has openings for the following positions:

Associate Director for Youth and Young Adult Program Development to develop and implement relevant youth and young adult programs, events, and resources to support nearly 150 parishes/missions and 29 Catholic Schools in furthering their evangelization efforts to middle and high school youth (grades 6 to 12) and non-college young adults (aged 18 to 29) to form intentional and missionary disciples.

Program and Marriage Preparation Coordinator to work on a collaborative team to assist in managing the nearly 150 programs and events sponsored by the Office for Evangelization, Office of Social Ministries, and Center for Marriage, Family, and Life. These programs and events range from 25 to 3,000 participants of all ages and demographics. In addition, the coordinator oversees the implementation of the Diocesan Marriage Preparation Program (Unveiled). This includes coordinating the logistics pertaining to each class, identification, development and supervision of facilitators, and ongoing maintenance of the marriage preparation program. This is a full-time (minimum of 35 hours per week) position. Regular night and weekend hours may be required, especially for diocesan programs. The position is based out of the Diocesan Pastoral Center in Richmond and requires travel to parishes or other event venues in the diocese.

Qualifications: Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with a strong working knowledge of relevant Church documents. Bachelor’s degree is required. Must possess certification in event planning, coordination or management, or a willingness to work toward it.

St. Bede Church is looking for a Contemporary Ensemble Scholar. The position requires a good understanding of sound equipment, e.g., sound boards, mics, etc., ability to read music and play guitar and/or drums at a high skill level, and an ability to work well with all age groups. Duties include running the sound board and associated equipment; coaching/mentoring other musicians on guitar, drums or other instruments. The ensemble rehearses from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and leads music at the 5 p.m. Sunday Mass, preceded by 4 p.m. warm-up. Position pays $18 per hour. Part-Time Pastoral Musician: St. Mary Catholic Church, Chesapeake, and Church of the Resurrection, Portsmouth, are seeking a part-time pastoral musician for both parishes. The Pastoral Musician oversees the musical component of liturgy, including Sundays, holy days, weddings, funerals, reconciliation services, youth services and other liturgical services. This includes responsibility for managing, training and rehearsing choirs, cantors and instrumentalists. Additional duties may be assigned by the pastor as needed. Knowledge of Catholic liturgy and musical requirements, to include a variety of liturgical preferences in style (traditional, contemporary, praise and worship, etc.). Proficiency on piano, organ and voice required. Proficiency in additional instruments is a plus. Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, Richmond, is seeking a part-time Extended Day Worker for their after-school care program. The worker will care for and guide students, oversee their homework, study, and outside play time. The employee will ensure that all school rules and regulations are followed during after school hours. She/he will also monitor student behavior as well as coordinate snack and other daily activities. This worker will work from approximately 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. every day school is in session. Associate Directors for Social Ministry Following the example of Pope Francis, the Catholic Diocese of Richmond is resolved to undergo a renewal in its outreach to those on the peripheries, particularly the poor and vulnerable through solidarity, advocacy, education, and action. The Office of Christian Formation is seeking a part-time (21 hours per week) Associate Director for Christian Formation to promote the evangelizing mission of the diocese through implementation of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). St. Edward the Confessor Church, Richmond, is seeking a part-time, 10 hours/week, Outreach in Love Coordinator who will plan and implement formation and fellowship programs for the adults and children with disabilities. Outreach in Love is a regional program to support and form persons with disabilities in our diocese. Candidates for this position must be enthusiastic about sharing the Catholic faith with children and adults with a variety of abilities and disabilities. Position responsibilities include: Working in collaboration with parish staff to develop and provide a weekly catechetical and fellowship-based program for participants, purchase resources, textbooks and supplies, and recruit and train catechist teams for both age group programs (children and adults). Part-time (11 hours/week) Physical Education Teacher who will promote wellness, team work, self-discipline, perseverance and sportsmanship. The Physical Education Teacher will teach all PK-8 physical education classes and organize field day. Applicants must hold a Virginia teacher certification or have the qualifications necessary to obtain one upon hire.

Part-time (15 hours/week) Music Teacher who will teach basic musicianship, including terms, theory and reading primarily through singing. Third graders also learn to play the recorder. The Music Teacher will teach all PK–8 music classes, and coordinate music for school Masses. Experience/training in the Ward method is preferred. Applicants must hold a Virginia teacher certification or have the qualifications necessary to obtain one upon hire.

Full-time Middle School Science Teacher who will partner with parents and teachers to foster and promote student learning and moral development through a classical Catholic curriculum. The Middle School Science Teacher will teach all middle school science classes and provide support, as needed, to the elementary teachers. Part-time (20-25 hours/week) Extended Day Director who will coordinate, supervise, and staff the school’s before and after-school child care program to provide a safe, caring, and nurturing environment outside the normal hours of the school day. The Extended Day Director must be able to obtain certification in first aid and EMAT within 30 days of hire.
