Bishop Barry C. Knestout’s favorite saint is St. Barnabas, whose feast day is the same as the bishop’s birthday — June 11.
“He is the ‘Son of Encouragement!’ and filled with the Spirit; he sold everything he owned to provide for the needs of the Church,” the bishop said of his choice. “He could see the gifts that people had and facilitated in bringing them into the work and service of the Church.”
The bishop noted that it was St. Barnabas who introduced St. Paul to the other apostles and accompanied him on his first journeys.
“He was a facilitator and instrument of God’s grace for the good of the Church,” the bishop said.
