Candlelight Carol Sing

The Music Ministry of St. Edward the Confessor Church, Richmond, will have a free concert featuring a Candlelight Carol Sing on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m. It will feature music of Amy Grant, John Rutter, Pachelbel, Vivaldi and favorite Christmas carols, seasonal Scripture readings and Children’s Nativity.

Ukrainian rite liturgy

The Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist in Richmond has changed its schedule for Divine Liturgy (Mass) from the first and third Saturdays of the month at 5 p.m. to the first and third Sundays of the month at 1 p.m. Liturgies are celebrated at the Comboni Missionary Sisters Chapel at 1307 Lakeside Avenue. The next service will be held on Sunday, December 18, with Christmas Divine Liturgy on December 25 at 11 a.m. Confessions which precede the liturgy are heard in both English and Ukrainian. The College of William & Mary Catholic Campus Ministry is preparing its annual benefit gala on Saturday, March 24. More information will be provided closer to the date.

Benefit concerts

The Richmond Brass and Percussion Consort with George Tuckwiller, conductor, and soprano Lisa Edwards Burrs will present the annual Christmas Concert to benefit the Central Virginia Food Bank on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 300 N. Sheppard St., and again on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 105 S. Snead St., Ashland.

The ensemble of 20 brass and percussion instruments and Ms. Burrs will present a concert of traditional and popular Christmas music from the Renaissance to Hollywood. There will be a mystery composer contest.

Admission at either concert will be a donation of non-perishable foods or money.

The Youth of St. James Parish, Hopewell, will sponsor a musical event to benefit the Hopewell Food Pantry on Sunday, Dec. 18, beginning at 2 p.m. in St. James Church, 510 W. Poythress St. The concert will feature The Overtones, the premiere co-ed a cappella group at James Madison University.

Admission is non-perishable food items, or cash.
