Dr. Dominick Hankle named new Diocesan Theologian
Dr. Dominick D. Hankle, assistant professor of psychology in the School of Undergraduate Studies at Regent University in Virginia Beach, has accepted the volunteer role of Diocesan Theologian.
He succeeds Vincent Sansone who resigned in March.
In his new part-time position, Dr. Hankle will serve as an advisor to the Bishop in collaborating with and providing consultation to diocesan staff and parishes regarding the teaching of doctrine and pastoral practices, including sacramental questions.
Supporting Dr. Hankle in regard to speaker approval will be Ann Niermeyer, administrative assistant in the Office of the Vicar General.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Dr. Hankle has had 12 years in pastoral experience as a pastoral associate at SS Simon and Jude Parish in Greensburg, PA, before moving to Virginia Beach.
His educational background includes a Master of Arts degree in Systematic Theology from St. Vincent Seminary, an M.S.Ed. degree in marriage and family counseling from Duquesne University and a Ph.D. in General Psychology from Capella University.
In addition to being a faculty member at Regent, Dr. Hankle also serves as the diocese’s Ecumenical and Interreligious Officer. He was appointed to that position in April 2010.
He and his wife, Andrea, have three children, Olivia, Hannah and Domenic. They are members of St. John the Apostle Parish in Virginia Beach.
