Bp. DiLorenzo to attend March for Life Youth Mass

Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo will be among the nation’s Catholic bishops at the Youth Rally of the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. on Friday, Jan. 22.

Michael School, diocesan Director of Youth Ministry, reported that there will be five buses to take approximately 300 diocesan youths to the youth rally this year. The rally, to be held at the Verizon Center at 601 F St., NW, is sponsored annually by the Archdiocese of Washington.

Knights to sponsor buses to March for Life Jan. 22

For the 27th consecutive year, the Knights of Columbus will provide free bus transportation for people in the Richmond area who want to attend the 37th March For Life Rally in Washington, D.C. on Friday, January 22.

Seating on the buses will be by reservation only.

Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or approved temporary guardian with written permission.

The West End bus will leave the Columbian Center, 2324 Pump Road, at 8 a.m.; contact Darius Yazdgerdi at (804) 740-9633.

The East End bus will leave the Church of the Redeemer, 8275 Meadowbridge Road, Mechanicsville, at 8 a.m.; contact Ed Gillikin, Sr. at (804) 737-7628.

Marchers must check in at the bus pick up location by 7:45 a.m. and must bring a lunch, soft drinks, hat, gloves and suitable clothing for weather conditions. The West End and East End buses will stop at the Diocese of Richmond Pastoral Center, 7800 Carousel Lane (just off of Parham and Shrader Roads) at 8:30.

All buses will return by 6 p.m.        

It will precede the national March for Life, a pro-life effort which seeks to overturn the 1973 Supreme Court ruling which overturned most state restrictions on abortion.

Doors of the Verizon Center will open at 7 a.m. Confessions will be heard from 8 to 9:30, followed by the Rosary at 9:30.

Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington will be the principal presider of Mass which begins at 10 a.m.

Teenagers and adult chaperones from the Diocese of Richmond will travel the day before to also attend a pre-March for Life youth rally at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale on Thursday night, Jan. 21. They will spend the night at Homewood Suites near Dulles Airport and then leave for Washington Friday morning at 6.

Commonwealth Catholic Charities has provided a grant to reduce the cost for participants from the Diocese of Richmond. Teenagers will pay $25 and adult chaperones will pay $40 for the bus transportation, lodging and meals.

The Diocese of Richmond still had 50 available tickets to the March for Life Youth Rally when The Catholic Virginian went to press on Jan. 6. Persons without a ticket who wish to be part of the diocesan delegation should contact Mr. School at mschool@richmonddiocese.org.
