$800,000 is collected for tuition assistance

Thanks to the support of Bishop DiLorenzo, many parish pastors, and countless generous parishioners of the Diocese of Richmond, the Office of Catholic Education will have an additional $800,000 to award in tuition assistance for school year 2009–2010 for Catholic students in our Catholic schools.
These monies were realized through the Offertory Increase Program which began about two years ago. The additional $800,000 will augment $200,000 provided through the McMahon Parater Foundation for all students, regardless of religion, who attend Catholic schools.
In these very difficult financial times, this is indeed great news for families of students in our Catholic schools.
In collaboration with the Bishop and the diocesan Offices of Finance and Development, the Office of Catholic Education has been working on providing tuition assistance to qualifying families whose children attend Catholic schools in our diocese.
In the words of His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, to Catholic educators during his visit to the United States in April 2008, “No child should be denied his or her right to an education in faith, which in turn nurtures the soul of a nation.”
The success of the diocesan collaborative effort speaks to the dedication of those who seek ways to provide financial assistance for families who otherwise would not be able to afford a Catholic education.
