Caring for the grieving at St. Matthew’s
An aging parish and the loss of 20 church members since June 2008, prompted Geraldine Ang-Rabanes and Sandi Blatnik of St. Matthew’s Church in Virginia Beach to organize and train a group of volunteers to help provide care and support for the grieving families in their parish. A six-week training session by Mary Williams and Sue Bucher, bereavement ministers at St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church in Chesapeake and St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach was followed by a commissioning of the new ministry by Rev. Joseph C. Facura, S.L.D, J.C.L. in early April of this year.
