This light display of the Madonna and Child, which had been a fixture on the Danville skyline for decades, has been given to Sacred Heart parish in Danville by Dan River Mills, once the city’s largest industrial firm. The icon, erected by the Knights of Columbus next to Sacred Heart School 60 feet in the air, was illuminated at a ceremony Dec. 7. “We plan to carry on this holiday tradition that the men and women of Dan River Mills, who helped give us this display, will always be fondly remembered as well as our town,” said Charles Crumpler, Deputy Grand Knight.
