Women’s Commission to have workshop Feb. 16
”Women of Faith in the Modern World” will be the theme of the second in a series of regional workshops for women to be held Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Catholic Diocese of Richmond Pastoral Center in Richmond.
The regional workshops are in response to the 2006 survey of diocesan women in which many asked for gatherings to address spiritual and social interests identified in the 2007 survey report. The Richmond Workshop will be a full day (9:00 to 4:00).
The previous Woman-to-Woman Workshop was held in Roanoke in October 2007.
“It received excellent reviews from participants with 100 percent saying they would attend another workshop as well as recommend it to friends,” said Colleen Barranger, associate director of the diocese’s Office of Justice and Peace.
The Feb. 16 workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning with registration and check-in at 9 to 9:25.
The Morning Spiritual Program will include a Prayer Bracelet Service led by Dolores Groat and a talk on Women in the Bible led by Pat Slater, who previously served with the diocese’s Office of Justice and Peace.
There will be a lunch break from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m.
Afternoon seminars will run concurrently with four sessions repeated. They are:
-
“Women & Depression” — Carrie Hartwell, program manager of Foster Care for Commonwealth Catholic Charities
-
“Marital Communications” — Lynda Leslie, licensed clinical social worker who works at Commonwealth Catholic Charities and St. Benedict School, and wife, mother and grandmother.
-
“Parenting” — Kathleen Levenston and Diane Mitchell, both of whom work at Commonwealth Catholic Charities with the therapeutic foster care program
-
“Lectio Divina: Many Ways to Listen to God” — Dolores Groat, founder of the Praying Hands Ministry who conducts workshops and retreats throughout the diocese.
All sessions will include time for questions. Lunch will be provided with ample opportunity to chat and relax together.
The cost is $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
