John Elcesser leaves diocese for new schools position in Indiana

John Elcesser, who has served as superintendent of the diocesan Office of Catholic Schools for two years, has left his position and is now executive director of the Indiana Non-Public Education Association which has its headquarters in Indianapolis.

The organization includes the five Catholic dioceses of Indiana, as well as Baptist, Lutheran, Christian and independent schools. The association has 466 schools serving 99,000 students.

At a farewell reception Jan. 24 at the Diocese of Richmond Pastoral Center Mr. Elcesser said that what he would miss most when he left Richmond were the people he had met here.

“To me coming from West Virginia to southern Virginia was a smooth transition,” he said.

“In the diocese people are passionate about their faith,” he added. “It has been a real blessing to work with the schools leadership, namely the principals and pastors.”

“My role was to come and till the soil,” Mr. Elcesser continued.

“Other people now will do the planting and harvesting for building a viable future for Catholic schools.”
