Lenten Revival

Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Richmond will hold a Lenten Revival beginning Sunday, Feb. 10 through Tuesday, Feb. 12. Redemptorist Father Maurice Nutt, pastor of Holy Names of Jesus and Mary Church in Memphis, Tennessee, will lead the services. Father Nutt led revival services at Holy Rosary’s Easter Revival last April.

Father Nutt will be the guest homilist for the regular Sunday 8 and 11 a.m. services, and then lead evening services Monday and Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. The church is located at 3300 R Street, at the corner of 33rd and S Streets in Church Hill.

Parish Mission

The Church of St. Gregory the Great, 5345 Virginia Beach Boulevard,Virginia Beach, is having its annual Parish Lenten Mission. This is a call to continuing growth in personal holiness. The theme is Reclaiming Our Hope in God. How often we sense hopelessness in our lives, in the world around us — an inability to get on top of things. Our mission director, Jesuit Fr. Henry Cain, and Dr. Virginia Blass will be the presenters. The teachings, after the 8:30 a.m. weekday Masses and at 7:00 in the evenings, February 11 through the 14, will all focus on hope. Babysitting services will be provided for the evening sessions only.

Bible Basics

Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Chesapeake will present an introductory“Bible Basics” seminar on Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the church, 621 Cedar Rd. A nursery will be available.

The seminar will seek to help people who want to read the Bible, but are not sure where to start. It will also answer the questions: Why do Catholics need to read the Bible? Valentine’s dinner

A Couples’ Valentine’s Candlelight Dinner will be held at Tabor Retreat Center in Lynchburg on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The program will begin with hors d’oeuvres, include dinner to be followed by Father James Gallagher speaking about the marriage covenant. Healing from abortion

The Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat will be held Friday to Sunday, Feb. 22–24 at Mary Mother of the Church Benedictine Abbey in Richmond. It will be facilitated by the Epiphany Parish Post Abortion Healing Ministry.

This retreat brings healing into reach for women and men who yearn for it. Through a process of living scripture meditation and prayer exercises, people uncover deep wounds buried in secrecy and shame and allow Jesus, the Divine Healer to restore them! PCHS auction

Peninsula Catholic High School in Newport News will hold its third annual auction “Surf the Knight Away” on Saturday, Feb. 23, with beach music, dancing, heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and Silent and Live Auctions. Wear your favorite beach shirt and you may be picked as our best-dressed party guest! Guest tickets are $30 each (after February 14 — $40 each).
