Roanoke Valley Lenten Mission to ask ‘Who are we? Whose are we?’
The Roanoke area Catholic parishes will hold their annual Valley Wide Lenten Mission Monday to Wednesday, February 25–27.
The guest presenter this year will be Dr. Elinor Ford, a nationally renown leader in the field of Catholic education, who will share a vision of developing Eucharistic community.
Members of all churches in the valley are encouraged to participate.
The mission, “Who Are We? Whose Are We?” offers daytime sessions from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Salem. The sessions will be repeated each of those evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at Our Lady of Nazareth Church in Roanoke.
Dr. Ford will discuss who we are as a Eucharistic community and how to share our gifts in service to others. She also will guide participants in understanding their Catholic identity, commitment and call to action.
Dr. Ford received her doctorate from Columbia University and served for several years as superintendent of schools for the Archdiocese of New York. She also was a professor in the graduate education department at Fordham University. Later Dr. Ford was publisher and chief executive officer of William H. Sadlier Publishing Company.
