Blacksburg parish has oak pews available
St. Mary’s Church in Blacksburg will soon be offering for purchase 115 solid oak pews which can provide seating for 150 people.
Father James Arsenault, pastor of St. Mary’s, says the pews, which have kneelers, are in excellent condition and have never been affixed to the floor. They will be available after May 15.

Sr. Winifred, who served in Norfolk, Richmond, dies
Sister Winifred McKay, a member of the Daughters of Charity, who served first in Norfolk and later in Richmond, died Jan. 11 at Villa St. Michael, the province’s retirement residence in Emmitsburg, MD. She was 92.
Born Phyllis Winifred McKay in Newark, Ohio, Sister Winifred entered the Daughters of Charity in 1933. She taught first grade at Sacred Heart School in Norfolk from 1951 to 1958 when she was sent to teach at St. Catherine Laboure School in Wheaton, MD.
Sister was involved in the adult literacy program at St. Patrick School and parish in Richmond from 1992 to 1997.
Mass of Christian burial was offered January 15, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Emmitsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Daughters of Charity Support Fund for the Elderly and Infirm Sisters, 333 South Seton Avenue, Emmitsburg, MD 21727.

Week of Prayer
Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo participated in a prayer service marking the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity at Sacred Heart Church in Prince George on Jan. 18. Ministers from 14 congregations of eight denominations participated in the prayer service which was organized by Father Jay Wagner, pastor of Sacred Heart. Next to the bishop is Father David Nott of St. John, Dinwiddie.
