Black Catholics retreat open to all

Although sponsored by the diocesan Office for Black Catholics and the Black Catholic Commission, their annual Spiritual Retreat to be held in Portsmouth is open to all Catholics who seek spiritual refreshment.

“It’s an opportunity to renew our commitment to our faith,” said Dawn Crutchfield, director of the diocesan office.

“We see the retreat as our spiritual reservoir,” she added. “We want to fill it up because at one time or another we all get spiritually depleted.”

The retreat will be held the weekend of Friday, Oct. 31, to Sunday, Nov. 2, at the Holiday Inn-Olde Towne Portsmouth, beginning Friday at 6 p.m. It will end on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Sister Dorothy Jackson, a member of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Ky., will be the facilitator of this year’s retreat. The theme is “Spiritual Contemplation: Can You Hear God’s Whisper?”

A non-refundable deposit of $50 for registration is due by Sept. 24. The balance is due by Oct. 17.

The cost of registration, which includes all meals, materials and lodging, will be $175 for rooms with double occupancy and $250 for single occupancy.

Checks should be made out to Catholic Diocese of Richmond and be mailed to Aisha Jones-Hunter, Office for Black Catholics, 7800 Carousel Lane, Richmond, VA 23294.
