Deacon Convocation to be held Sept. 18–20 in Williamsburg
All deacons serving in the Diocese of Richmond and their wives will gather for a Deacon Convocation Thursday to Saturday, Sept. 18–20, in Williamsburg.
“The Call to be Happy, Healthy and Holy” will be the theme of the keynote presentation by Deacon Michael Ross on Friday at 9 a.m.
Msgr. Mark Richard Lane, Vicar for Clergy, will give a welcome address on Thursday at 8:15 p.m.
Deacon Bob Ewan, Assistant Director in the Office of Vicar for Clergy, will then speak on current issues and the new deacon formation program which will begin later this month.
Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo will give an address to the deacons and their wives on Friday at 1 p.m.
In the afternoon two members of the Diocesan Pastoral Center staff will give brief updates. Catherine Combier-Donovan, director of the Office of Worship, will present Liturgical Updates, and Beth Neu, director of the Office of Pastoral Planning, will speak on that issue.
On Saturday morning there will be four optional sessions for convocation participants. The topics and speakers will be “Annulment Questions,” Msgr. Francis Muench, Judicial Vicar of the Tribunal; “New Marriage Preparation Program,” Jim and Sandy Dyk, coordinators of that program; “Faithful Citizenship,” Jeff Caruso, executive director of the Virginia Catholic Conference; and “Spirituality for Deacon Wives,” Dr. Dorothy Sayer, of Kelly Consulting of Philadelphia, and one of six panel members of psychological testing of the diocese’s deacon aspirants.
All events will be held at Hospitality House, except for prayer and liturgy at St. Bede Catholic Campus Ministry Center across the street.
