We are pleased to introduce the graduating valedictorians and salutatorians from The Diocese of Richmond's eight catholic high schools. Congratulations to all 2007 graduates. Congratulations to all diocesan graduates.

Benedictine High School

There were 74 graduates at the commencement exercises June 6 at the Benedictine Memorial Gym.

Abbot Patrick D. Moore, O.S.B., of Mary Mother of the Church Abbey presided at the Baccalaureate Mass earlier that day at St. Benedict Church.

The Valedictorian is Thomas Saunders who will attend Duke University.

The Salutatorian is Robert Stone who will attend Villanova University.

Bishop Sullivan High School

There were 120 graduates of Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in Virginia Beach on June 9 at Chrysler Hall in downtown Norfolk.

Bishop Emeritus Walter F. Sullivan presided at the Baccalaureate Mass at the Church of St. Mark, Virginia Beach on June 8.

The Valedictorian was William Hoey who will attend the University of Notre Dame.

The Salutatorian was Hilary Kelly who will attend the University Notre Dame.

Blessed Sacrament Huguenot

There were 28 graduates of Blessed Sacrament Huguenot School, Powhatan, at the commencement exercises June 1 at St. Edward the Confessor Church.

Father Jeffery Garcia presided at the Baccalaureate Mass earlier that day at St. John Neumann Church, Powhatan.

The Valedictorian is Katherine Kidwell who will attend the University of Virginia.

The Salutatorian is Colin Benusa who will attend the University of Virginia.

Holy Cross Regional School

There were 22 graduates of Holy Cross Regional Catholic School in Lynchburg at the graduation ceremonies June 8 at St. Thomas More Church.

Presiding at the Baccalaureate Mass at Holy Cross Church on June 7 was Msgr. J. Kenneth Rush.

The Valedictorian was Cyndel Cackowski who will attend James Madison University.

The Salutatorian was Cortney Lewandowski who will attend Sweet Briar College.

Peninsula Catholic High School

There were 82 graduates of Peninsula Catholic High School in Newport News at the May 31 commencement exercises at the school. Father Kenneth Wood, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, presided at the Baccalaureate Mass May 30. Concelebrating were Father Joseph Majewski, Father Lawrence Mullaney, and Msgr. Robert Perkins.

The Valedictorian was Elizabeth Magdycz who will be attending Vanderbilt University.

The Salutatorian was Thomas Gounley who will attend the University of New Hampshire.

Peninsula received $3,320,719 in scholarships, grants and awards.

Roanoke Catholic School

There were 39 graduates of Roanoke Catholic School at graduation ceremonies June 7 at St. Andrew’s Church, Roanoke.

Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo presided at the Baccalaureate Mass June 6 at St. Andrew’s Church.

Maria Surat was Valedictorian. She will attend the University of Notre Dame.

Kelly Jacobs and Thomas McConnel were Co-Salutatorians and both will attend the University of Virginia.

Saint Gertrude High School

There were 66 graduates of St. Gertrude High School, Richmond, on June 4 at the Stuart C. Siegel Center of Virginia Commonwealth University.

Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo presided at the Baccalaureate Mass June 4 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.

Abby Polzin was Valedictorian. She will attend Miami University of Ohio.

Patricia McNally was Salutatorian. She will attend the University of Virginia.

Walsingham Academy

There were 60 graduates of Walsingham Academy in Williamsburg at the commencement exercises June 8 at Walsingham Academy.

Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo presided at the Baccalaureate Mass which was celebrated on June 7.

Student speakers at graduation were Winston Plunkett and Emma Ross who will attend the University of Pennsylvania and Duke University, respectively.
