Local planning area proposals being studied

The diocesan Pastoral Planning Commission met on June 11 and will have another meeting on July 11 during which they will review proposals submitted by the 19 local planning area committees which suggest ways in which parishes can work together in meeting the sacramental needs of parishioners.

If the plans are accepted by the commission, they will go to Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo with the commission’s recommendation that they be implemented. Two of the 19 plans were submitted without a consensus being reached.

If commission members feel that changes are necessary, the submitted plans will be returned to the local planning area committee to be reworked.
According to Beth Neu, director of the Office for Pastoral Planning, the pastoral plans are expected to be in place by the end of this calendar year, but they will not all be implemented at the same time.

“If they are accepted by the bishop, they will go into effect as the need dictates,” Mrs. Neu said.
