Joseph Krenik, priest’s father, dies in Minnesota

Joseph Krenik, the father of Father Robert Krenik, a retired priest of the Diocese of Richmond, died June 8 in Le Center, Minn. He was 94 and was a retired dairy farmer.

Father Krenik, who had served as pastor of Christ the King parish in Abingdon and St. John Church in Marion before he retired from active priestly ministry, presided at the funeral Mass June 11 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Le Center, part of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and located east of Mankato. Mr. Krenik had been born in Le Center and had been baptized and married at the church.

In addition to Father Krenik, he is survived by another son, Joseph Krenik Jr., a daughter, Ann Pundt, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Seminarian assignment

Seminarian John David Ramsey has been assigned to St. Joan of Arc parish in Yorktown under Father Michael Joly, for the period July 1, 2008 through August 15, 2009. The change from a previously announced assignment was made due to the pastoral needs of the diocese.

The Ancient Order of Hibernians is an International Catholic, Irish American fraternal organization which promotes the Catholic faith and Irish heritage through Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity. The Fr. John Lynch Division 1 in Roanoke awarded its annual $500 Shamrock Scholarship to Mary Katherine “Katie” McNally. Katie was selected as the winner because of her outstanding academic performance, extra curricular activities and community involvement. Katie accepted the scholarship award from Division President Matt Duffy, right, and Scholarship Committee Chairman Mike Connor.
