Sacred music concertThe Virginia Choral Society will present “Rejoice in the Lamb,” English Sacred Music of the 20th Century, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Newport News, on Friday, April 25, at 8 p.m. The concert features Requiem (Malcolm Archer) A lush and multi-voiced setting of this great text with many comparisons to the Duruflé and Fauré versions, Greater Love Hath No Man (John Ireland), Te Deum in C Major, Jubilate Deo in C, and Rejoice in the Lamb (Benjamin Britten). Yard/Bake SaleA Yard/Bake Sale and Raffle at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Amherts will be held on Saturday, April 26, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will feature clothes, furniture, appliances, books, jewelry, plants, and miscellaneous items plus a variety of home baked cakes, pies, breads and cookies. Raffle items will include wood carvings by Luther Shimp and a restored trunk. Proceeds will go to support various church ministries and a local Amherst charity.
Moon DanceSt. Bridget Church in Richmond will hold the second Annual Moon Dance on Saturday, April 26, from 6 until 10 p.m., at Rock Bottom (5995 River Road.) There will be barbeque, beer and wine, dancing and live entertainment by After 5. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Shalom HouseShalom House Retreat Center in western Hanover County will hold a series of Springtime Quiet Days on Wednesdays, April 30, May 7 and May 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The days provide time for prayer, silence, solitude and reflection in a country setting. Events at AbbeyThe Benedictine Monks of Mary Mother of the Church Abbey in Richmond will give a guided Retreat beginning with vespers and dinner beginning Sunday, May 4, and ending with lunch on Thursday, May 8. Therte will be a fundraising spaghetti dinner for the abbey’s Retreat Center on Thursday, May 15, at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $25.00 per plate, children 6–12 years old $9 and 5 and under free. Father Joseph Mary Lukyamuzi will be directing a spiritual weekend May 16–18 for Mothers and Daughters. The cost is $140 per person, including lodging and all meals. Centering prayerAn Introduction to Centering Prayer will be offered on Saturday, May 3, from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m at Church of the Ascension, 4853 Princess Anne Rd., Virginia Beach.
