Sr. Anne Marie Diggle, member of Visitation Sisters, dies at 87

Sister Anne Marie Diggle, a member of the Sisters of the Visitation of Monte Maria Monastery in Hanover County, died March 24. She was 87 and had been blind for many years.

Desite her disability, Sister Marie Anne served as the community portress whose responsibilities were to answer the telephone and door to visitors.

“She was a model of patience,” said Bishop Emeritus Walter F. Sullivan in his homily at Sisters’s funeral Mass March 26.

Born and reared in Washington, D.C. where she lived in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, Sister Marie Anne entered the Visitation community at the convent in Bethesda, MD. and was a professed member for 59 years. When the monastery closed, she came to Richmond and became a member of the community here.
