Adoption meetings

Commonwealth Catholic Charities will host a free orientation regarding domestic infant and international adoption on Tuesday, March 25, at 7 p.m. at the agency’s south Richmond office, 203 Twinridge Lane. Knights of Columbus

Genevieve McQuade, featured Believe as you Pray columnist for The Catholic Virginian, will give a presentation at an open meeting of the Father James Rizer Council of the Knights of Columbus of St. Bede parish, Williamsburg on Thursday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Bede’s. The topic will be “The Road to Holiness, the Knights’ Mission, and Dignity.” The meeting is open to all.

Campus Ministry Gala

Catholic Campus Ministry at the College of William and Mary will hold its second annual Benefit Gala on Saturday, March 29 at Walsingham Academy in Williamsburg. The Gala will include dinner, table seating for all, and a selection of fine wines, silent auction, and a raffle. Entertainment will include a string quartet, The Gentlemen of the College, and One Accord. The Gala proceeds will benefit the Endowment Fund. Tickets are $75 per person. ‘Welcome Home’

St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church is offering a “Welcome Home” program for Catholics interested in returning to the practice of their faith. The program consists of six informational sessions held on consecutive Tuesday evenings with the first session scheduled for 7 p.m. on April 1. St. Joseph’s Festival

The Saint Joseph Italian Festival, sponsored by the Giuseppe Verdi Lodge of the Order Sons of Italy in America with St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Richmond, will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 5–6, on the church grounds at 828 Buford Rd. in the Bon Air neighborhood of Chesterfield County. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

In addition to authentic Italian food, there also will be music and entertainment. The emphasis will be on educating the general public, not only about Italian language, food, music, customs, traditions and history, but also about local charitable organizations.

Guests are invited to donate $2 per person at the admission entrance.

Ladies Sodality

Holy Rosary Ladies Sodality of Richmond will sponsor a Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, April 5, at 9 a.m. at Holy Rosary Parish Center, 3300 R Street.

Benedictine speaker

General Dave R. Palmer, former superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, will be the 10th Visiting Author of Benedictine High School, Richmond, on Sunday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m. at a reception/dinner to be held at Mary Mother of the Church Abbey. The Power of Forgiveness

A special free screening of “The Power of Forgiveness,” a new documentary film with seven short stories that explore how forgiveness is possible in the various faith traditions, will be on Sunday, April 13, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Old Dominion University in Room 101 in the Mills Godwin Building located off 43rd Street. St. John’s Troubadors

St. John’s Troubadors of St. John parish in Highland Springs will present Walt Disney’s “The Beauty and the Beast” on Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the newly renovated Henrico Theater on Nine Mile Road in Highland Springs. Girls’ retreat

An InnerLife retreat for young women who are juniors or seniors in high school will be held Friday and Saturday, April 18–19 at Our Lady of the Angels Trappistine Monastery near Crozet. It will be held in a beautiful, rustic setting that fosters prayer and allows participants to go deeper in their relationship with Christ. Walsingham concert

The Upper School of Walsingham Academy, Williamsburg, will present Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, on Wednesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. at its Spring concert. Based on Johann Acreas Schmeller’s complete edition of early 13th century German manuscript from a Benedictine abbey, Carmina Burana was set to music by composer/educator Carol Orff in the 1930’s. The 160 students will perform under the direction of Teresa Cobarrubia Yoder. In May, 40 Walsingham Academy Madrigal singers, joined with VCU’s choral department, two other colleges, and the Chinese Orchestra, will be presenting the entire work in China in a musical tribute to the 2008 Olympics this May. The concert is free and open to the public.
