New foundation will offer $200,000 in tuition aid
Earlier this year Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo created the McMahon-Parater Foundation for Education to make financial aid available to all who seek a Catholic Education within the confines of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond.
The foundation is named for the late Msgr. John J. McMahon, a priest of the Diocese of Richmond who died in 1982, and Francis J. Parater, a former Richmond seminarian whose cause for sainthood is currently under consideration at the Vatican.
The McMahon-Parater Foundation is separately incorporated and will be governed by a board of directors whose sole purpose is to create endowments to generate funds for tuition assistance and to ensure educational excellence. These tuition grants will be available to students attending all Catholic Schools in the diocese, parish, regional, diocesan and independent Catholic schools.
Since the foundation is just beginning, Bishop DiLorenzo allocated a burse of funds that will make $200,000 of tuition assistance available for the 2008–2009 school year. The Diocesan Finance Office will be responsible for the administration of these grants during this first year.
The current board of directors consists of former congressman Thomas J. Bliley, chairman of the board; Annette Parsons, president; Kathleen Barrett, treasurer; Bishop DiLorenzo, Charles McPhillips, Geline B. Williams and Carolyn Lambert. Legal advisor to the Board is Stephen Reardon.
