Feast of St. Patrick shifted to new date

The Diocese of Richmond, in accord with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, will permit the celebration of the feast of St. Patrick on Friday, March 14, in those parishes where St. Patrick is the patron or of great importance.

It cannot be celebrated liturgically on March 17 since it falls during Holy Week, when no saints’ days may be celebrated, nor should it be celebrated on Saturday, March 15, since that is officially the solemnity of St. Joseph, which takes precedence.
