Bishop’s liaisons on ecumenism
By Msgr. Raymond Barton Special to The Catholic Virginian
With the Bishop’s happy appointment of Barbara Hughes as liaison to the Jewish and Muslim communities, I would like to welcome Barbara to membership on the Diocesan Commission for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs.
I would also like to introduce the Bishop’s other liaisons on the Commission to the CV readership. They represent the Bishop to the various churches and ecclesial communities in southern Virginia.
Liaison to the Baptists — Sister Cora Billings, RSM
Liaison to Charismatic and Pentecostal Communities — Deacon Darrell Wentworth
Liaison to the Episcopalians — Father James Parke
Liaison to the Lutherans — Msgr. Joseph Lehman
Liaison to the Mennonites — Mrs. Patty Huffman
Liaison to the United Methodists — Dr. Richard Linneberger
Liaison to the Presbyterians — Fr. S. Randall Rule
Liaison to the Orthodox — Mr. Philip Gallagher
Liaison to the Virginia Council of Church’s Faith and Order Group — Mrs. Ellen Hewitt and members of the Virginia Council of Church’s Coordinating Cabinet; Msgrs. Joseph Lehman and Raymond Barton.
Through the Bishop’s appointments, his efforts and those of the Diocese become personal, local, and more effective.
