Fr. Lane seminars

Father Mark Lane, Vicar for Clergy of the Diocese of Richmond, will be conducting the following seminars during the month of December: “The Nativity in Art” on Thursday, December 6, at Our Lady of Lourdes, Richmond, and “Apocryphal Art” at St. Benedict’s Church Richmond, with Part I on Tuesday, December 11, and Part II on Tuesday, December 18th. Each session will begin at 7 p.m. The cost for each seminar is $15.

Festival of Carols

A Family Festival of Carols” will be presented at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Newport News, on Friday, December 7, and at St. Bede Church, Williamsburg, on Friday, December 14, with both performances at 8 p.m.

The concerts will feature classical works, such as the Finzi “Magnificat,” “Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones,” “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence,” along with contemporary Holiday music. Tickets at $18 and $15 (Sr.Citizen/Youth/Military) are available at the door. The advance OLMC group rate is $12 ($2 contributed to the Nativity Scene fund). Tabor Retreat Center

Sacred Chant and Christmas Cards will be the theme of an event on Sunday, Dec. 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Tabor Retreat Center in Lynchburg. Participants are asked to bring a tea cup and writing supplies to spend quiet time for writing cards to friends and loved ones. Those who wish to come should register by calling Tabor at 434–846–6475 and leave their name and phone number. A free will offering will be taken.

Vocal concert

The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart will present a free one-hour Concert of Holiday Music on Monday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. The concert will feature vocal soloists from the Cathedral Choir and VCU Music Department and Lisa Edwards Burrs, Father Michael Renninger and Anne O’Byrne with pianist Patrick Carlin. Lunch will be served and reservations are not required.
