Deacon hired to direct new leadership program
Deacon Richard Miech of the Diocese of Green Bay, Wis., has been hired to be director of the new diocesan Church Leadership Institute.
Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo announced the appointment Feb. 20. He had accepted the recommendation of the diocese’s search committee which had made “an extensive search” to find the right person for the job, said Dorothy Mahanes, diocesan director of Human Resources.
Deacon Miech will be responsible for the new diocesan office whose goal is to continue to develop lay leadership in Church ministry.
Deacon Miech, who was ordained in 2000, has been an active facilitator in the Lay Ministry Formation program for the Diocese of Green Bay. For the last 16 years, he has been the instructor/coordinator for the Quality Management Program at Fox Valley Technical College.
Deacon Miech has a B.A. in Applied Behavior Sciences and an M.A. in Pastoral Ministry from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.
As The Catholic Virginian went to press on Feb. 21 for this issue, the new director was en route from Wisconsin to Virginia to begin his new job on Feb. 22.
An interview with Deacon Miech about the new diocesan office will appear in the March 12 issue of The Catholic Virginian.
