Fr. Lane Seminar
Father Mark Lane, Vicar for Clergy, will present the seminar “Faith Underground: The Catacombs” on Monday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. at Church of the Epiphany in Richmond. He will explore the earliest Christian art, the symbols and biblical narrative written on the catacomb walls in mosiac, on sarcophagi in stone and early frescos. The cost is $15.

History of Tango
“The History of Tango, Songs and Dances for Flute and Harp” will be the theme of a free concert by Du Ciel Duo at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 401 Alderman Rd., Charlottesville, on Friday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. The Du Ciel Duo will feature Wayla Chambo on the flute and Adrienne Wager on the harp. Roanoke Catholic
Beth Dunkenberger, head coach of the Virginia Tech Women’s Basketball Team, will be the featured speaker at Roanoke Catholic High School’s Girls’ Basketball Kick-off Banquet on Sunday, October 28, at 5 p.m. in the social hall of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. Harvest House Tour
The 27th Annual St.Gertrude High School Harvest House Tour will be held on Sunday, October 28, from 1 to 5 p.m. Five homes in the Carillon Neighborhood will be on tour in addition to tours of the Carillion Bell Tower and Pump House. Refreshments will be available at the Carillon. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at St.Gertrude’s, Leo Burke Furniture, Judy Newcomb Gallery or Extra Billy’s.

30th anniversary
Church of the Holy Apostles, a Roman Catholic and Episcopal shared congregation in Virginia Beach, will celebrate its 30th Anniversary on Thursday, Nov. 1. Bishop Emeritus Walter F. Sullivan and retired Episcopal Bishop Charles Vache, founding Bishops, will preside at the Feast of All Saints Anniversary Eucharist at 6:30 p.m. at the church located at 1593 Lynnhaven Parkway.

Stuart Avenue Players
The Stuart Avenue Players of Saint Gertrude and Benedictine High Schools in Richmond will present “Bye Bye Birdie” on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 2, 3 & 4. Tickets are $5. Show times are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm, and Sunday at 2 pm. Dessert Theater tickets for Sunday are $10 available in advance only. Bereavement service
Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Richmond is hosting a bereavement service on Friday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. We invite all those who have lost a loved one in the past to attend. The church is located at 8200 Woodman Road.

Open House
Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School, Virginia Beach, will hold its annual Open House on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. Visitors can tour facilities, visit with our educators, and see the campus. Applications for early admission to the 2008–2009 school year will be available. Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School is located at 4552 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464. Retrouvaille weekend

Oyster roast
Oyster Roast 2007, a fundraising event for St. Bridget School in Richmond, will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, at Tuckahoe Plantation. Oyster Roast 2007 Committee’s goal is to beat last year’s record-breaking 400 attendees, the largest fundraiser to date in school history. It will feature live entertainment by the band Monkey Fuzz, food and drink and a live auction. Tickets are $60 or $75 for those who seek to be patrons. Event proceeds will go to technological enhancements the school is preparing to make, and to school maintenance and upkeep.

Veteran’s Day Mass
Saint Benedict Catholic Church, Richmond, and the Fr. William J. Nolte Council No. 11533 of the Knights of Columbus will have their annual Veteran’s Day Mass on Saturday, November 17, at the 5:30 p.m. Mass. At the beginning of Mass, there will be the Presentation of Flags during a patriotic medley. All veterans are invited to attend and be recognized.

Craft fairs and holiday bazaars
Little Sisters
The St. Joseph’s Auxiliary will hold its 31st Annual Bazaar on Saturday, November 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged, 1503 Michael Road, Richmond. All proceeds benefit the elderly entrusted to the care of the Little Sisters of the Poor. Featured will be hand-painted Christmas wood crafts, hand-made jewelry, a variety of needle crafts, and many other creative items; delicious homemade frozen meals and baked goods; treasures old and new-showcasing jewelry, housewares, children’s items, and holiday decorations. Admission is free, and concessions will be available offering breakfast and lunch.
Holiday bazaar
Church of the Ascension, Virginia Beach, will have its 31st annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church, 4853 Princess Anne Rd.
Lunch will feature beef burgundy, pizza, hot dogs and Brunswick stew.
Christmas Craft Fair
Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Palmyra will hold its annual Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday, Nov.10, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The church is located on Rt. 53 in Palmyra. Vendors will have original hand crafted items made by parishioners. There will also be a bake sale and multiple raffles.
St. Edward Craft Fair
St. Edward the Confessor Church, 2700 Dolfield Drive, Richmond, will hold its 7th Annual Holiday Craft & Gift Fair on Saturday, November 17, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There will also be baked goods and a raffle.
Fall Craft Festival
Knights of Columbus Council #4632, Columbian Club, Virginia Beach, will hold a Fall Craft Festival on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1236 Prosperity Rd. Crafters and vendors are needed. Table fees are $20 a table. For more information, call Denise or Nancy at 757–425–9970
