Rosary Rally

The Legion of Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows praesidium at SS. Peter and Paul, Palmyra, and SS. Joseph/ Katharine Drexel, Columbia,will be having a Rosary Rally on Saturday, October 13, from 12 to 2 p.m. at SS Peter and Paul Church on Route 53. This is a planned worldwide prayer for peace gathering suggested by the America Needs Fatima organization in honor of Our Lady’s last apparition on October 13, 90 years ago.

Prayer service

St. Michael Church, at 4491 Springfield Rd. in Glen Allen, will be holding an evening prayer service for safety personnel on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. in the worship space. It will celebrate the work which safety and emergency workers provide throughout the area in our community and ask God’s continued protection for them. These include our policeman, fire fighters and EMT’s. The service will be followed by fellowship and refreshments.

Adoption program

Commonwealth Catholic Charities (CCC), Richmond, will host a free orientation regarding domestic infant and international adoption on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. at the CCC southside office, 203 Twinridge Lane. Volunteers needed

Commonwealth Catholic Charities needs volunteers to assist with a variety of administrative activities in the main office located at 1512 Willow Lawn Drive. Charismatic Mass

A Charismatic Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 1, at 7:30 p.m. at St. John Neumann Church, 2480 Batterson Road, Powhatan. The church is located about ⁄ mile off Route 60 (Midlothian Tpk.), 7.8 miles west of Rt. 288, on the right, behind the Flat Rock Shopping Center. The People of Praise Prayer Group of St. Edward’s will be hosting the celebration.

Concert series

Blessed Sacrament parish, Norfolk, will begin its 2007–2008 Concert Series on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. with the U.S. Fleet Forces Band — Wind Ensemble. The concert will be at the church, 6400 Newport Ave., with a reception following.

A second concert by the Virginia Chorale performing “Sacred Choral Classics” will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m.

Church bazaar

St. Joseph Church, at 512 Buckroe Ave., Hampton, will hold its Fall Bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be children’s activities, food, books, religious articles, rummage sale, bingo, raffle, silent auction and live music. The health ministry will conduct free health assessments.

The Knights of Columbus will hold their Bazaar kick-off Fish Fry on Friday, Oct. 5, at 5:30 p.m. with a live auction in Cordier Hall.

Pet blessing

Church of the Epiphany, Richmond, will hold its Annual Pet Blessing in honor of St. Francis of Assisi on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. All will gather in front of the church by the bell tower. Pets of all shapes and sizes are welcome, pet and people goodies provided. Pet medals will also be available at $1 each.

Flea Market

Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in Virginia Beach will hold its annual Flea Market and Fall Festival on Saturday, September 29, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the school. Living Stones

The Third Annual Catholic Youth and Family Rally: Living Stones will be held Sunday, October 7, on the Roanoke Catholic School Campus starting at 3 p.m. This follows the 2–3 p.m. Life Chain, a prayerful witness to the sanctity of life, at the corner of Williamson Rd. and Orange Ave. a mile from Roanoke Catholic School. The rally will feature live music, a BBQ, and a musical presentation by Father Michael Joly, blind since childhood, who will “open your eyes” to how youth and families are the Living Stones that make up the Kingdom of God. The event will conclude with Mass.

St. Anselm lecture

The St. Anselm Institute of the University of Virginia will hold its first lecture on its 2007–2008 series on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 5 p.m. with Mother Mary Assumpta Long, the Prioress General of the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The community has grown from four to 73 sisters since it was founded in 1997 and has sisters teaching in three dioceses. 5K Eagle Challenge

St. Edward-Epiphany School in Richmond will host its first annual “5K Eagle Challenge” at 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, in conjunction with the school’s Fall Fun Festival. A free “Little Eaglet Fun Run” for young children will kick off at 9:30 a.m. The 5K will start and finish in the rear parking lot of St. Edward-Epiphany School, located at 10701 West Huguenot Road. The kids’ fun run will take place on the school’s athletic field.

Registration for the 5K is $15 per runner before Oct. 1 and $20 per runner after October 1. Race day registration on the school grounds will be held from 7 to 7:45 a.m. Tee-shirts are guaranteed to all 5K pre-registrants and family discount registration rates are available. Prizes will be awarded to the top female and male runners in various age groups. Registration and race details are available online with the Richmond Road Runners at www.rrrc.org. St. Michael’s concert

Musician, composer, singer and recording artist Rev. Andre Patenaude, a member of the La Salette Missioners known as “Father Pat,” will offer a mission of spiritual renewal at St. Michael Church, 4491 Springfield Road, Glen Allen. Rachel’s Vineyard

A Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat, seen as a time for parents of aborted children to allow themselves to process the trauma of abortion, reconcile guilt, and grieve the deaths of their children, will be held the weekend of Oct. 5-7 at Mary Mother of the Church Abbey in Richmond. Also invited into healing are other relatives of aborted children and anyone responsible for abortions.
