Guardian Angel students, teachers placed in other schools
Most of the students who attended the now-closed Guardian Angel Regional Catholic School in Staunton have been accepted in their first choice of other schools.
More than 40 are now attending Stuart Hall, a private school in Staunton which is affiliated with the Episcopal Church.
According to Dan Dolan, who had served as principal of Guardian Angel when it was closed by the diocese in August, most of Guardian Angel’s teachers have also found new teaching positions. Two of those teachers will now be working at Stuart Hall.
The diocesan Office of Catholic Schools will continue working with teachers from Guardian Angel who have not yet found other teaching positions.
On another matter, the Office of Catholic Schools will continue to initiate activities which are meant to celebrate Catholic education in the Shenandoah Valley.
Periodically there will be Mass and a reception open to parents and youths of the four Catholic parishes which were served by Guardian Angel. They are St. Francis of Assisi, Staunton; Blessed Sacrament, Harrisonburg; St. John’s, Waynesboro, and St. Patrick’s, Lexington.
“The gatherings will really be a celebration of Catholic education to carry the torch and continue to celebrate Catholic education,” Mr. Dolan said.
