Fr. Lane to speak on artists’ reaction to Church

Father Mark R. Lane, diocesan Vicar for Clergy, will present a three-part series on “Caravaggio: The Man Born to Destroy the Art of Painting” and “Artemisia Genticescho: Altering the Image of the Female in Art” at St. Bridget Church, 6006 Three Chopt Rd. in Richmond, beginning Monday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m.

The seminars will address the impact of the Catholic Reformation restraints on artistic expression and how each artist rebelled against such restraints.

A retrospective of works by both artists is meant to allow the viewer to see the intense realism, moral tension and sensitivity for drama each artist creates.

Part II will be presented on Thursday, Oct. 4, and Part III will be presented on Thursday, Oct. 11.

The cost will be $15 per session.
