Fair Trade Festival

The annual Fair Trade Festival, “A Unique International Shopping Experience that Seeks Economic Justice and an End to Poverty” will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s St. Michael Hall and Conference Center, 144 Harpersville Road, Newport News, on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6–7. The festival hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. The event will feature an array of fairly-traded products including handcrafts, coffee, chocolate and food samples from around the world. The sale is sponsored by Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in partnership with Work of Human Hands, Catholic Relief Services and SERRV International, a nonprofit organization.

Journey to Wellness

The third annual Bishop DiLorenzo Journey to Wellness will be held on Sunday, Sept. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Church, 3314 Sandra Lane, Virginia Beach.

There will be talks by medical professionals on Preventive Medicine (Cynthia C. Romero, M.D.), Pediatric Plastic Surgery (Eric Cole, M.D.) and Common Eye Diseases of the Elderly (Rey M. Francisco, M.D.).

Each talk will be a 20-minute presentation followed by a question and answer session which will include an open dialogue with the speakers.

Life in the Spirit

The Tidewater Catholic Charismatic Renewal Service Committee will sponsor a Life in the Spirit Seminar beginning on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m., at New Creation Renewal Center, 1600 Elbow Road, Chesapeake. Craft show

Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Salem, Women’s Club will hold its third annual Holiday Craft Show on Saturday, Sept. 22nd from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the social hall of the church on Turner Road in Salem. There will be crafts, food and raffles.

Parish Festival

The Church of the Sacred Heart in Prince George will hold its 101st annual Parish Community Festival on Sunday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the church grounds near the intersection of Route 460 and I–295 (east on exit 3 off I–295). Dinner with traditional Czech food will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Children’s games and bingo will take place throughout the day. Gospel singers and country western entertainment will be featured.

Poverty and Prayer

Gerry Straub, award-winning author and filmmaker, will present “Poverty and Prayer” at Immaculate Conception Church, Hampton, on Saturday, Sept. 29. This one-day retreat will feature clips from Gerry’s films and his personal reflections and testimony about his own conversion to social justice. Used book sale

The Women’s Club of St. Gregory the Great Church in Virginia Beach will hold the 11th annual used book sale on Saturday, September 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday, September 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Assembly Room in Paschal Hall. A wide variety of selections is available. Proceeds will help charitable works of the club.

3rd Annual Oktoberfest

”Graced by God”

”Graced by God,” a Richmond regional catechetical conference, will be held on Saturday, October 13, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 8200 Woodman Rd., Richmond. It will be a day of fellowship, prayer, inspiration, learning, sharing, and motivation. The keynote speaker will be Jerry Galipeau, a popular parish mission presenter and retreat leader. Topic of the day will be “Encountering the Living Christ: In Our Community, Family and Parish.”

Bazaar

St. Mary’s Church, Chesapeake, will hold its annual bazaar on Saturday, September 29, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The church is located at 544 Homestead Rd. Featured will handcrafts, white elephant, cake booth, food and more. The bazaar is a project of the St. Anne’s Society.
