Commonwealth Catholic Charities will host a free orientation regarding domestic infant and international adoption, Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. at the Chesterfield office, 203 Twinridge Lane. Commonwealth Catholic Charities needs volunteers to assist with a variety of administrative activities in the CCC main office located at 1512 Willow Lawn Drive in Richmond. Hours are flexible and training is provided. Please contact Stuart Smith at 804–545–5944 or email Stuart_smith@cccofva.org. Volunteers are also needed to assist with the CCC HELP program — providing emergency food and financial assistance to clients in need. St. Ann’s MOPS 5th annual open house
St. Ann’s MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) will have its fifth annual Open House on Wednesday, Aug. 29, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church, 105 S. Snead St., Ashland.
All mothers who have preschoolers, children from birth through kindergarten, are invited to this Open House to learn more about MOPS, meet other moms of preschoolers, build new friendships, gain the much-needed support for these challenging years, and to celebrate motherhood while giving glory to God.

Young men’s retreat
InnerLife, a retreat for young men who are seniors and juniors in high school seeking a deeper relationship with Christ, will be held Sept. 14–15 at Our Lady of the Angels Trappistine Monastery near Crozet. The retreat will be held in a rustic setting so participants can learn more about how silence and solitude can deepen their prayer life.

Fun & Food Fest
The annual Fun & Food Fest of St. Therese parish in Chesapeake will be held on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14–15, at the church, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd.
Friday hours will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. There will be food from various cultures, homemade desserts, live entertainment, games, a raffle, vendors, crafters, BINGO and more. Admission is free.

BBQ Blast
A fundraiser known as BBQ Blast will be held at St. John’s Church, Highland Springs, on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the church, 813 W. Nine Mile Rd. In addition to a meal of chicken, ribs, pulled barbecue and hot dogs, baked beans and corn on the cob, there will be local artisans and live entertainment. There is no entry fee.

Widowed support
A new 9-week support group for widowed men and women will begin in the Bon Air area of Richmond on September 17 or 24 (Monday evenings). Space is limited, and those interested — or wishing more information — should contact the facilitator, Dr. Elaine Nowinski, by late August. Portsmouth tour
The annual Steeple to Steeple Tour of historic churches in Olde Towne Portsmouth will be held on Saturday, October 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tour, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, will originate at St. Paul’s Catholic Church at the corner of High and Washington Streets in Olde Towne Portsmouth at 8:45 a.m. The walks between the churches range from one to four blocks. Those wishing to purchase tickets ($20 each including lunch) should mail their checks made out to the Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth, Inc., and send them to P. O. Box 126, Portsmouth, VA 23705–0126.
Tickets will be sent by return mail or held at the door. The tour is limited to 100 participants. Reservations in advance are strongly suggested as the event often sells out before the day of the tour. Tickets will be sold at the door if available for $25. Proceeds will benefit the HER Shelter for battered women and their children.
