Benedictine Fund drive to honor Father Adrian

The annual fundraising campaign of Benedictine High School in Richmond has been named in honor of Father Adrian W. Harmening OSB. It will now be known as the Father Adrian Education Fund.

“Father Adrian has devoted 53 years of his life to educating, nurturing and caring for the cadets of Benedictine High School,” said Thomas J. Lukish Jr., the school’s Director of Advancement and 1976 graduate of Benedictine.

“He has humbly dedicated himself to helping every student build a foundation for success.

“Father Adrian has done this without fanfare and except for a scholarship dinner in his name, very little recognition. Benedictine High School clearly recognizes his extraordinary contributions and has chosen to honor him.

A total of 3,656 cadets have graduated since Father Adrian first arrived in Richmond at the Benedictine Priory in 1955. A former principal of Benedictine, he is now the school chaplain.

Charitable gifts to the annual fund reached an all-time high last year with over $300,000 in gifts.

There were 63 graduates in the Class of 2007 who earned over $3.7 million in merit-based scholarship awards.

The Father Adrian Education Fund will help Benedictine cover day-to-day expenses like new doors at the school, upgrades to classrooms, new books in the library, technology improvements, uniforms for the student/athletes and gas for the Big Green Cadet bus.
