To mark the end of Black History Month, the 7th and 8th grade religion and history classes at Saint Mary Star of the Sea School in Hampton joined to host Msgr. Walter Barrett as a guest speaker.  Msgr. Barrett is pastor at Saint Joseph Church and St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Fort Monroe.

The students learned about the history of the Christian movement originating in Africa where some of the earliest Christians were baptized (Phillip and the eunuch in Acts 8).

Msgr. Barrett then discussed the movement of black Christians from Africa to the United States.  Msgr. Barrett was very informative and inspired our students to continue living their faith side by side with many different cultures and  people from different ethnic groups!
